Each time I re-read this commentary on the Psalms by Thomas Merton I am overwhelmed by the depth and excitement it stirs in me. Merton is spot on and, unlike some great scholars of great intellect, he knows how to write a sentence that is compelling. I need this book. I arrived on time and in great condition.Product details

I expected something a little bit longer. Certainly, with the number of books Merton wrote, there must be more than these few pages on psalms.
Thomas Merton definitely knew and walked with my LORD, who was also his LORD. His book is worth reading for a quick overview of the Psalms and their integration into corporate and individual Christian worship and prayer, even for the Protestant who wouldn't feel comfortable with some of Merton’s Roman Catholic thoughts; e.g., praying for the dead (39) and the “Most Holy Mother of God, who is our model as well as our most powerful Protector in the life of Grace.” (45) These thoughts are there, but they are rare.
BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUND TO THE HISTORY AND USE OF THE PSALMS IN THE CHURCH AND THE FAITHFUL.
Wonderful concise summary of the Psalms with "handles" for organizing their various themes for personal and public use. Author shares the importance of Psalm use in his personal devotional life.
I try to read anything I can get my hands on as far as the spiritual and personal treatment of the Psalter for spiritual life. This is the best I've found, richly underpinned by theology and a christocentric reading in view of communion.
A little dry, and not much writing here in this little book from Thomas Merton - I was hoping for a little more insight and personal reflection. Most of the second half is selections from the Psalms themselves, not really needed. I am much preferring Bonhoeffer's Psalms A Prayer Book for the Bible.
